In Memory

This page is a tribute to Rita Bowring.

Who after a long illness finally passed away on 18th May 2005 aged 46 years old. Rita ( IKKI ) was a founder member of the Moorland Marauders and is dearly missed by family and friends.

Rita was born on the 24th December 1958, in Cambridge Street, Bletchley.

The first child of Frank & Rita Fox who had eloped from Fife in Scotland to Cambridge. In 1958 Frank worked for the M.O.D at Bletchley Park on a hush, hush course and was supposed to have left his wife in Cambridge, but he had hidden his now pregnant wife in a small street in Bletchley. With the impending Christmas break looming he had forced his wife Rita to drink copious amounts of cod liver oil to induce the birth of their child, at a time when he would be off work and able to keep it a secret. As you can see the result was baby Rita was born on Christmas Eve. Later that week baby Rita’s photograph appeared in the local paper as one of the Christmas babies that year and the cat was out of the bag. It was later discovered that the landlady had let the press in to take a photograph of baby Rita for the newspaper.

Rita loved Dartmoor and spent many a happy day Letterboxing, unfortunately she passed away on 18th May 2005 due to the treatment for breast cancer. She had written a message in the early stages of her illness, please read and cherish those people around you for you never know when they will be taken away.
